InterBase Service Pack Announcement:
At the "Meet The InterBase Team" session at BorCon on Tuesday night,
November 4, we got compliments on a recent Service Pack release. Many
people said we should have called it a point release because the
improvements were so significant. On the other hand, some people criticised us
for not publicizing it enough. Ok, here goes:
We've released an important Service Pack for InterBase 7.1 that
dramatically improves optimizer performance in many circumstances. The
InterBase server enhancements include the following:
- faster and better query optimization for indexes with multiple
segments
- enables prolonged use of databases on read-only media, thus solving
issues with huge number of transactions
- enhanced performance for sort operations
- enhanced SMP performance of InterBase server
- stable update of more than 10000 records at a time
- resolves index creation issues for large indexes
- fixes server crash issues caused by memory leaks in windows system
driver (dummy interval triggered)
- provides better error reporting and logging of SQL statement that
caused exceptions
- reduces duplicate logging of network errors
Registered users can download the service pack at:

Eliminating End User Registration for VARs, ISVs and OEMs.
We took some heat for the new product registration requirement for
InterBase 7. But that was somewhat mitigated when we made it clear that
ISVs, VARs and OEMs with valid VAR Agreements can be provided with a VAR
Activation File that eliminates the need for the VAR's end user to
register the product. This means that you can still use any and all of the
InterBase methods for creating "silent installs." Your customer dosen't
need to know that InterBase is running or have anything to do with
installation or configuration. Ask your sales person for more information
on VAR agreements.
