Japanese Yahoo loses millions of e-mails
TOKYO, April 7 (UPI) -- Nearly 4.5 million e-mails were erased accidentally by the Yahoo Japan Corp. because of a glitch in the company's communications program, a report says. The Kyodo news agency said the company confirmed Friday that 4,492,200 e-mails sent to nearly 275,000 people were lost and another 5,149,500 were temporarily unavailable to users.
The company said most of the erased online messages were from specific Internet addresses and had been sent in bulk between Dec. 26 and Feb. 26.
The affected messages had been incorrectly labeled as spam messages by the Internet company, but were sent to requested in-boxes on the Yahoo network.
The news agency said after staying inside those in-boxes between 36 to 37 days, the e-mails then became inaccessible to users due to the glitch in programming.
